Publication on the cost and benefit structure in distribution centers

Especially in economically tough times efficient logistics structures are a decisive competitive factor. The evaluation of the own performance requires reference values to compare with others. In the journal “Fördern + Heben” the methodology of the “Distribution Center Reference Model” (DCRM) is explained and results from the application of the model in the Warehouse Excellence Study are pointed out.

PhD-thesis of Dr. Jens Wisser available

The thesis of Jens Wisser deals with the development of analytical models for the integrated evaluation of the process storage and picking in the framework of the Distribution Center Reference Model (DCRM).
The analytical models give an integrated estimation of the required resources, based on different technical implementation as well as the material and information flows in consideration of the requirements and tasks. Thereby, the necessary time and area requirements are calculated considering interdependencies. Then, the personel as well as the investment is calculated and finally the total costs are determined.
Thus a transparent, neutral and objective point of reference for comparing existing and/or planned systems is given. Furthermore, different scenarios can be evaluated, e.g. the use of different storage and picking systems, the combination and/or division of storage and picking areas or the change of the requirement profile for a system.
